as we approached these mushrooms on art hill, we couldn't quite figure out how they were growing on a freshly mowed patch of grass. until it slowly occurred to us that they were art. i LOVE them! they are made out of lunch sacks. check out dougrhodehamel.com for the scoop.
and no humble pie here. i am in love with this picture. so ethereal. big canvas print, perhaps? wouldn't that look yummy over your fireplace, meryl and scott? :-)
matt and tiffany rocked out in our stlove wedding hunt contest last year. throughout their wedding day, i kept hearing details about how all out they went to win. as in matt and tiffany were out with a laptop in front of fountain on locust, the final mystery location, early in the morning and had already pre-loaded their photos into gmail, ready to send. as in matt and tiffany once refused an invitation to go out with friends because they were busy "scouting" potential contest locations. as in matt and tiffany called matt's parents while they were on vacation so they could help figure out mystery location clues.
if you recall, last saturday had bouts of torrential rain, but it always seemed to happen at exactly the right time.
as usual, a few favorites and the slideshow.
matt and tiffany got married at little flower catholic church in richmond heights. tiffany's beautiful clean-lined gown was from clarice's. i loved her flower choices which were created by kenary park florist. the fabulous reception was held at moulin. amazing double rainbow courtesy of whichever higher power you believe in. incredibly thoughtful handmade details by tiffany and super suave first dance courtesy of matt and tiffany's dancing shoes.

in the meantime, we're on a bit of a culinary/city farewell tour, hitting all of our favorite haunts before the big move. i think maybe it's just an excuse to cram our favorite eateries/places all into a couple of weekends since we won't be that far from the city.
here are a few of the places on our list.
the hill. check. yum favazza's.
la vallesana. check.
benton park cafe. check. get the ultimate benedict.
cupcakery
crepes in the city
mobot
gelateria
wasabi
why are we moving? it's a good time to buy. we knew the day would come eventually whenever kids came into the picture b/c of ahem, a little problem we call st. louis public schools. i taught in one for a year, so i am well-qualified to know that i wouldn't send the children of my worst enemy there to get "educated."
nope, no kids yet. no, i'm not pregnant. but we know we want to have kids. there are heaps of private schools around, but adam and i are both products of public schools and just don't want to bother with paying tuition. so, we're moving to the land of decent public schools.
why else are we moving? peace. we love the city, but we are not at peace here. yes, things can happen anywhere, but we want to let our guards down for a bit. ditch the highway noise. ditch the pervasive stop sign running. ditch the broken windows. and the other stuff i don't feel like getting into here.
i never thought a move to the suburbs would enter the picture for us. i struggled with the idea of "selling out" for a bit, but really, who cares? it's not like we're moving out there to suddenly become republican or anything. :-) no offense. we are still who we are. it just won't be in the city. our tattoos, liberalism and green-ness aren't going anywhere. well, they are, i suppose, but to the county with us.
we have two fabulous weddings coming up in september- mallorie and adam and matt and tiffany. stay tuned for those. in the meantime, we'll be packing up life here and transitioning to our new home.
peace out. and peace in.
Hi Becca, wow I just stumbled on here (as I'm recommending you to one of my clients who's looking for a wedding photog) to hear that you're moving. Are you sure you haven't been feeling a little more conservative lately? No. I'm totally kidding. I'm still living in the city but I have struggled with your same issues a lot. And you sum it up perfectly for me when you say you just want to let your guard down. That is EXACTLY what wears me out so much about living here. Some of our very close friends are moving out of their beautiful house in Old North and out to greener calmer pastures. I never thought they would do it. So where's your new house?
